Nintendo Wii

Okay, I'm fairly disturbed by this news. But Nintendo has just released that the name of their new console: Nintend Wii. This is pronounced 'we'.

I was quite attached to the codename 'Revolution'. And MUCH prefer it over the new name 'Wii'. Read more about it on http://revolution.nintendo.com. Their reasoning for the new name is as follows: "Wii has a distinctive 'ii' spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play." Along with other lame reasonings for the name :S Nintendo Revolution. I liked the codename Revolution because it sounded like something completely new was going to be released from Nintendo (which is it). Nintendo aren't going to try and compete with Sony and Microsoft and are releasing a console which is new and innovative. The Wii is new and innovative because the controller can determine it's relative orientation in 3D space (as I said, completely different to Sony's and Microsoft's consoles).

I think this change of direction to not directly compete with the Sony PS3 and the Microsoft XBox360 is good for Nintendo. I love my Nintendo games and I don't love them because they have the best graphics or anything, but because they are different, unique and enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the innovative games that come out of this new console. I will definitely be buying a Nintendo Wii as it will be backwards compatible (yay, first ever for Nintendo consoles) so I can play my GameCube games since I broke my GC from leaving it running for too long :S

Best home made lightsaber dual ever!

Okay, I'm not exactly a Star Wars fan, and fighting with light sabers is weird to me, but for those of you who I know are Star Wars fans I assumed you would appreciate having a look at the "Best home made lightsaber dual ever!" (or so it has been named).

Black Holes Collide

I found this article on slashdot, its about how scientists have been able to computationally model black holes merging/colliding, and the gravitational waves that result. The laser project (image to left) is an attempt to detect the gravitational waves.

"The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna consists of three spacecraft orbiting the sun in a triangular configuration, separated from each other by five million kilometers. Each spacecraft will contain freely falling "proof masses" protected from all other forces except for gravity. The relative motion of the masses can be measured by combining laser beams shining between the spacecraft. Passing gravitational waves will ripple space and time, revealing their presence by altering the motion of the proof masses. Click on image to view large resolution. Credit: NASA"

Virgin XBox360/GameCube: See anything out of the ordinary?

http://www.virginmobile.com.au/

Okay, lets start with the screenshot and you can have a look for yourselves first:

"Just looks like a website...? " I hear you say. Well, lets take a closer look and I draw your attention towards the promotion:

Still not sure what I'm talking about? Well, I don't know if I picked up on this because I'm an avid fan of consoles or what. But this took me by real surprise. Virgin Mobile are advertising to win an XBox 360. Great for those who like XBox's (not my cup of tea personally, I'm a Playstation gamer through and through). However, I'm also a Nintendo fan as well, and I know a GameCube controller when I see one. Virgin Mobile are advertising their promotion of The Vibe with an XBox360 with a Nintendo GameCube controller!!! Outrageous!!! If I was Nintendo I would not be happy indeed. Or perhaps there's an all new XBox360 which features Nintendo GameCube controllers? :P (VERY unlikely, hehehe).

Luckily for VirginMobile they covered their backs with the Conditions of Entry. Or, did they?
17. The Promoter will not be responsible for any incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete information communicated in the course of or in connection with this promotion if the deficiency is occasioned by any cause outside the reasonable control of the Promoter, including without limitation technical malfunctions or failures.
Does not being able to represent their prize, Microsoft's XBox360, count as 'a cause outside the reasonable control of' VirginMobile? I would hope not.

Something else of note is that the image of the GameCube controller that VirginMobile used doesn't have the "Nintendo GameCube" label or any other brand signature. This would make it look like they knew what they were doing with picture, but that is questionable.

Please post your comments. I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks of this. Notibly it would be good for Nintendo to have their picture up on the website, but for advertising another console, I think the XBox360 would benefit more.

NFS Underground 2 Update

I just wanted to show everyone my cool car.

Its the same Hyundai as last time, except I've repainted it, replaced a lot of the body and changed to using carbon body parts mostly. Its also been upgraded -a lot-.
